HISTORICAL BACKGOUND
 
Ikenne Local Government has Ikenne Remo as its Headquaters, it was created in September, 1991 from the defunct Remo Local Government.

It is bounded on the west by Obafemi-Owode Local Govenment
 
POPULATION/LAND MASS

Using 1991 National population commission census figure and projected to 1998 based on 3% growth rate has 72,980 people. The Local Government Area is about 137.13 kilometers in size.

PEOPLE 

The Local Government as a whole is semi-urban,comprising five major towns namely Iperu, IIisan, Ogere, Ironu and Ikenne, the Headquaters.The people are mainly of Remo stock with trading and farming as their predominant occupation.                  

INFRASTRUCTURE/SOCIAL DEV.

Road Development:There are good road networks that adequately link towns within the Local Government Area as well a linking the Local Government Area with other towns in the State and beyond. Virtually all the road are accessible all year round, It may be partinent to mention that the Lagos-Sagamu-Benin Express road is one of the major highways that pass through the Local Government Area. So also is Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which also passes through the Local Government at Ogere.

Water Supply: The source of water supply to the people of Ikenne Local Government Area include pipe-borne water, borehole and deepwell. There exist in the Local Government Area some rivers e.g Uren river at Ikenne, and Ogun river at Ogere, which also serve as source of water supply to the people. The rivers could be dredged and treated to supply drinkable water to the people of the Local Government Area. 

Education: In the Local Government Area, we have a substantial number of public and private schools at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels.The tertiary institutions are the privately owned Babcock University at IIisan, Ogun State-Owned Institute of Ogun State University and the Obafemi  Awolowo College of Health Sciences Campus of Ogun State University which is currently under constrution at Ikenne.

ECONOMIC/INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Ikenne Local Government Area is endowed with good Weather, typical of rainforest. The climate and geographical location of the Local Government Area is supportive of the wide range of economic activities such as agriculture, industrial and commercial activities.

The Local Government host many industrial/ commercial establishments, while agriclture and allied activities also constitute the most important economic activities of the people. It includes planting of food crop like maize, cassava, rice, pine-apples, cocoyam cowpea, melon and cash-crrops like kolanut, oil-paltrees, rubber and timber. Different types of livestock are also reared

Arising from the existence of these nature endowment, the State Government also established a Zonal Agriculture Complex at Ikenne comprising of parastatals like Agro Service Corporation, Ogun State Agriculture Development Project, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IART);established to provide reseach an extension of service for all the farmers in the Local Government Area and beyond.
