HISTORICAL BACKGOUND
 
The entity called Ewekoro Local Government first came into existence on 22nd of May, 1981 through the grace of the then Governor of Ogun State, Chief Bisi Onabanjo (Late). In 1984 when the military took over it was merged with Ifo Local Government in 1989.

However, on December 16, 1996 Ewekoro Local Government was restored as an autonomous Local Government by the then Federal Military Government alongside five other in the sate, thus increasing the number of Local Government in Ogun State from fifteen to twenty.

BOUNDARIES 

The Local Government is bounded by Yewa South in the west, Ifo Local Government in the south, Abeokuta North and Obafemi Owode in the north and east respectively.

 LANDMASS/POPULATION

It has a land area of 63.5 square kilomitres with an estimated population of about 147,000 people going by the 1991 population census.

PEOPLE

The indigenous dwellers of Ewekoro Local Government area are mainly the Egbas, particular the Egba Owus. The people engage primarily in farming and trading activitise. The area is essentally in rural settlement.

ADMINISTRATIVE/POLITICAL DIVISIONS

At present the Local Government is divided into ten political ward as follows:

  1.  Itori ward
  2. Owowo ward
  3.  Mosan ward
  4. Abalabi ward
  5. Wasimi ward
  6. Papalanto ward
  7. Arigbajo ward  
  8. Obada ward
  9. Yobo ward
  10. Elere Onigbendu ward

INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMEMENT

Road Development:In order to give a life-line to the rural dwellers particular because majority of inhabitants of the Local Government are farmers, a lot has been achieved in the area of road constrution and rehabilitation within the last two years. The adminstration has been tackling with feeder and township roads which have become delorable within the Local Government. Early in the year 2001, the administration of Hon. Adesete embarked on and completed the grading of all feeder roads within our Local Government such that farmers can now bring their produce at affordable rates, thereby reducing the cost of living in the Local Government.

Health And Medical Services: The Local Government was adjudge the best Local Government in the State on primary health care activities for the year 1999. The award ceremony was performed by His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Osoba, the Governor of Ogun for the underlisted:

  • This administation embarked on and compeleted the construction of a health post at Obada-Oko mechanics in the course of perfoming their duties.
  •  In an attempt to maintain a clean environment, this administration  engaged itself in refuse evacuation at various towns within the Local Government. 
  • This Local Government participated effectively in the Four National Immunisation Exersise on the eradication of the six killer diseases of children throughout the Local Gvernment.
  • This adminstration also constructed a health post at Sigo Baido village to boost the health condition of the people in the area.
